This is a post of me showing off because I WENT TO THE ROYAL SCHOOL OF NEEDLEWORK AT HAMPTON COURT PALACE WHERE KING HENRY XII LIVED AND DID A COURSE IN COLOURED METAL THREADWORK YO. So I had a holiday recently and spent 2 nights in Hampton Court having my first ever formal instruction in any kind of embroidery - in Coloured Metal Threadwork. So here's lots of pics of what it was like to study there and what I did in class and my homework! That little round window that's open was our classroom! It's the magical private staircase...

Hello, here's a great big blog post for you all about how I made the Queen of Snails. Unlike the God of Adversity this piece was pretty much fully realised from sketch through to completion. In actual fact, the snail has been one of the first things I drew in my sketchbook and wanted to create large scale. I was really influenced by an illustration by Alan Aldridge in possible the most loved and influential book I have, The Butterfly Ball (which I wrote about here). Not sure yet. So it all started back in June. I kinda had enough of doing the mini things and felt like striking out in a new direction. I also wanted to stretch my designer legs and make something come alive from a drawing. Although I have no particular fondness for crabs in particular , I was totally into...

I had fun making this little chap. I knew instantly exactly how I wanted to create it. I was going to blog this in two goes but life is crazy at the moment so it’s a one hit wonder. Hope you like it! I bought some special silver plated copper wire. It’s 0.2mm thick and to be honest probably slightly too thin to be flexible yet firm enough to be controlled easily. But the stuff I had already was too thick and I ended up with this: Just a bit too chunky. So I made this little wire mandrake frame...
