Willow – Herb Lore
Read more →And so to Willow. A very magical tree indeed. I’m mainly concerned with White willow – Salix alba, AKA Pussy Willow, Saille, Tree of Enchantment, The Witch’s Tree. Willow is also one of the “nine sacred trees” mentioned in Wicca and witchcraft, with several magical uses. In the Celtic calendar the Willow Moon corresponds to April. I was born in April, and this is why I have a tattoo of a willow branch on my foot. True facts. Willows are all about water, so they’re all about the moon and the feminine too. For example, Hecate the powerful Greek goddess...

Making the Birch Forest
Read more →I’m very pleased with this, but it also feels a bit ‘un-me’ in a weird way. The whole thing seems very elegant and contemporary and somehow a bit of a departure from my normal style? I dunno. What do you think? Now, the photos are as usual crappy, but I have a good excuse this time, as it’s because the embroidery is so pretty that the photos came out so shit. Because I used super fine super shiny silk thread, silver – naturally – this one in fact: The silver one on the right and the ivory one on the...

VIP Commission…This is an Endurance Sport.
Read more →This is what my desk currently looks like. Tidying up, along with all other non-essential tasks, have ceased to work on the VIP Swans. It’s going well. Better than well, probably my best work. But I am a very bad embroiderer. My mister says it’s the ‘Mad Scientist’ in me. I literally sleep, dream, eat, breathe this piece. Well, I would if I actually ate (or drank) anything during a session of stitching. I’m bad. I get all intense and can’t leave my chair. At night I obsessively think of the next bit and what stitches to use and...

Been Caught Stealing
Read more →You might need a cup of tea for this one. Hello everyone, it’s me, Katie. I haven’t blogged for OVER A WEEK. That’s not been the case for a while. So what’s up? Well, a few things so let me explain. In Mother Eagle world, the main thing I have been working on lately is my new website. This will be an integrated site, encompassing my shop and blog. Nothing will happen to this blog or my Etsy shop for now, only that this blog’s address will revert to the old “.wordpress.com” and the simple “madebymothereagle.com” domain that I own...

What I've been up to.
Read more →Hello friends. I know I’ve not been blogging with as much regularity the last couple of weeks. So I thought I would update you with what’s been happening behind the scenes at Mother Eagle Towers: Rebranding. I had a logo, a logo I was quite attached to, and one that I designed. Here is the picture of the original drawing I did (see I told you I’m not much of a drawer): Then my lovely mister who has more patience with graphic design than me (BE PERFECT STRAIGHT AWAY!) smartened it up for me into the classic tattoo style heart...

Update-a-go-go
Read more →Hi Y’all! New things afoot at the Mother Eagle headquarters. Firstly, this lovely stuff: This lovely, fluffy, dusty, sneezy stuff* is recycled cotton threads reclaimed from the factory floor and will be the new filling for all my creations. The debate rages as to whether polyester or cotton wins the eco-friendly battle, and on the face of it it certainly looks like cotton may be the loser, when taken into consideration just how heaviliy sprayed non organic cotton crops are, not to mention GM seeds. Cotton is one of the major crops of the world’s industrial farming. Then you have...

First day
Read more →I can’t remember where I read it recently but it was about genii and how they are mischevious and trapped in the lamp because of this. When you get them out they are so relieved they grant you three wishes but always find a loophole which allows them to cause more naughtiness. So, in this version, the farmer says ‘I never want to work again!’ and the genii removes his legs. That sort of thing (bit of a gruesome example there, sorry about that. It was actually in this story though). It’s the whole ‘careful what you wish for’ thing....

Oh, hello. Let me tell you all about it.
Read more →Dover Images Hello darling blog, I’m back. I’ve been blogging a lot more lately after a nearly seven months gap since you last heard from me. There is a reason. Let me get a cup of tea and tell you all about it and what I’ve been up to. So, I finally finished my Aromatherapy diploma case studies back in April and sent off the whole 18-months-worth of work to be marked. Which it was, and I got my shiny (not really shiny, papery really) certificate, insurance and all that aromatic jazz. Yay for me! But some spooky timing was...
