From Mother Eagle’s Garden, Midwinter ’12 Collection.
…Mother
Eagle’s garden is home to a fairy ring of toadstools, of both poisonous and
magickal kinds. Although useful for healing and visions, the fairy ring is
guarded by a giant bug-eyed toad that curses anyone who violates the circles…
This is a beautiful miniature hand-embroidered
poisonous Death Cap Toadstool, created using a variety of traditional Jacobean
raised embroidery, or Stumpwork, techniques.
This is a very intricate piece of embroidery;
hand-dyed wool felt decorated with French knots makes up the mushroom’s
appliquéd cap. Tufted Turkey Rug stitch, satin stitch, and French knots
in 100% cotton threads make up the rest. It is worked on to fine vintage
cotton, which has been lightly dyed using organic tea, giving a lovely,
antiqued mottle.

It is mounted into a beautiful oval pendant which has been custom made to
my specifications. It completely encloses the embroidery, in sturdy but light-weight
and sustainably sourced birch wood. The wood has been treated in a non-toxic
natural wax by my own hand, and measures 56mm (plus 17mm for the tab and bail) x 48mm
in size and is 5mm thick. It hangs on a 27.5” antique brass finished copper chain. This chain is
of the highest quality - every single link of this chain has been soldered.
This, along with the bail and lobster clasp, are lead and nickel free, and
chosen to provide you with a lifetime’s wear
